Zafira, a 25-year-old from Colombia, trained in Lomi-Lomi (traditional Hawaiian massage) during a several-month stay in Maui with a certified kahuna. She is the only practitioner in French-speaking Switzerland to offer this technique in its full ritual form.
Lomi-Lomi is characterized by the extensive use of the forearms: the movements are long, continuous, and almost dance-like. The practitioner moves around the table, coconut oil flows freely, and the rhythm evokes the sound of the surf. The session traditionally begins and ends with a moment of silent breathing—it is as much a ceremony as it is a treatment.
